So I was at Hay Festival and this lady wore a Sweater saying Gainsbourg is God and I thought… #BellaFreud #Ginsberg

DSC_1412

… Please God say it’s an imitation of Bella Freud’s Ginsberg is God sweater that I have coveted ever since I saw Kate Moss wear it in a ElleGirl 2003 magazine candid shot. The man next to her says “Oh I got this from Cos.” (Completely teasing me!) Then the lady answers: “It’s Bella Freud” and I’m like “Oh is it $300 bucks?” And she confirms it is meaning it’s the same designer and same price point that is well out of my reach because I am a mere Poet.

So here’s the jumper she was wearing…

[Discovering Serge Gainsbourg and Beat Bohemian Apparel]

If you’re a Rich Poet (total oxymoron) then like yeah… Go buy one here. Or if you’re a kind-hearted Poet/Artist/Nouveau Bohemian/Preppy Bohemian please do buy one for me! [Size XL, please message me on Facebook so you know where to post it.]

Evidently this is a nod to Serge Gainsbourg the French singer, painter and musician, who I would not have known the name of but for the Gainsbourg v Ginsberg Jumper probing at Hay. Naturally, I already recognised the sound of Gainsbourg’s music, I just didn’t know his name.

So have a listen.

So here it is in all its knitted literary splendor. I was actually imaging to wear this piece with black skinny jeans and white tennis shoes (to be an ironic Beatnik which is so not ‘Beat’ and the white tennis shoes is a bit Hipsterish but I secretly like it and would just end up Bohemianizing the whole look anyway.)

Regardless, Kate’s Look is sooo much better.

Anyhoo, a bit more about Bella Freud. Yes, she’s the daughter of Lucian Freud and the grand-daughter of Sigmund Freud (the man that wrote an essay titled “Fetishism” and dribble-dabbled about “penis envy.”)

If you can’t get to her shop at 49 Chiltern Street, London then visit BellaFreud.com

If you’re lucky enough to be able to afford the sweater that I’ve always wanted since I was 13 then go show it off on instagram and tag her shop: @Bella_Freud

Bit of homework… You could watch this short film Bella wrote and directed and psychoanalyze it to Sigmund’s theories…

The World’s Most Beautiful Bohemian : Talitha Getty

If there is one deceased soul whom I believe to have been in another life it would be this particular Getty. Getty by marriage not birth of course. Talitha was beautiful and damned like me. Most curiously she was born on the island of Java which is where half my family are from. Talitha Getty is the quintessential Bohemian, she was an actress, she was beautiful, well-traveled and married a millionaire. Once a heart is touched with Dreams of Bohemia one cannot simply live in squalor, not if you’re a beautiful woman.

We owe much to our imaginings of Bohemian life to Tali-G. She epitomized the beautiful, damned and exotic side of Bohemian Life. Trips to Marrakesh, kaftans and exotic collectibles are conjured in the mind when one hears the word “bohemian” because of Talitha Getty. She lived it first. Her mother Poppet John was the daughter of Painter Augustus John and Dorelia McNeill who is regarded as by Virginia Nicholson (author of Among the Bohemians) as an exemplar of Bohemian fashion! Evidently Bohemianism ran in her blood.

From hanging out with Claus von Bulow, Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithful the Getty’s were a sensational couple who mingled with the icons of the decade. On their wedding day she wore a mini skirt trimmed with mink fur and so enchanting was Talitha’s beauty that some men have claimed to have “never been so erotically stirred by a woman.” Her death came too early but her portrayal of an alluring Bohemian lifestyle lives on.

The World’s Most Glamorous Bohemian: Edwige Fenech

ED12

Edwige Fenech is an actress who was most popular back in the 70’s garnering commercial success in “commedia sexy all’italiana” films. This genre of film is essentially a “sex comedy Italian style” with a plethora of beautiful women, many of whom all too happy to take their tops off. On top of that salacious delight are classic slapstick moments and lot’s of well-off characters engaging in all kinds of silliness! “The sins of Madame Bovary” (1969) is by far my favorite film of hers. It’s plot is more serious and true to life and I relate to Fenech’s character; Emma Bovary’s dreams of a better life filled with more beauty and more passion. Though my morals are more stringent than Bovary’s! It’s indulgent and at times slow paced, do note this film like many of her others is in Italian.

Edwige is absolutely stunning in this film (and all her others!) She is almost too glamorous to gaze at. But view it and admire it all you want as it is a film adaptation of influential French writer Gustave Flaubert’s Realist Novel: “Madame Bovary.” Don’t let Edwige’s beauty and willingness to disrobe fool you into categorizing her as cinematic eye candy. Edwige Fenech is as compelling and credible an actress as she is comely. A triple threat by today’s standards.

ED BOHO

This Mediterranean Beauty (her father is  Maltese) gloriously embodies the ultimate Bohemian chic with printed scarves on her head, a nonchalant penchant for showing her body and a wild career as an actress baring her soul and breasts. Best of all she lived through the 60’s and 70’s and was at the peak of her youth and beauty during those audacious decades.

ED8

I say kudos to Edwige’s brazen roles as seductress, kudos to her softcore porn scenes and merci beaucoup Fenech for your sensual presence on film.
