The title of this painting by Anthony Falbo is a reference to Galatians 5:24: โAnd those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.โ
This theme rings throughout Paulโs other writings as well:
- โFor we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.โ (Romans 6:6)
- โ. . . if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.โ (Romans 8:13)
- โI have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.โ (Galatians 2:20)
- โMay I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.โ (Galatians 6:14)
